CFTH Presents: The PIT Count — Behind the Numbers

A closer look at how Houston measures and responds to homelessness

In June, we'll release the results of the 2026 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count — often referred to as the region’s annual “homeless count.”

But before that, join us for an inside look at how the count comes together, from on-the-ground outreach to data collection and analysis.

You’ll hear directly from the people who make it happen — those leading efforts in the field and those working behind the scenes to turn data into action across The Way Home.

Attend CFTH Presents May, and we'll save a seat for you at the official results release in June!

Speakers include:

  • Toni Benson-Atkinson, Director of Program Operations, CFTH — Oversees outreach coordination and field implementation during the count
  • Renee Cavazos-Benavides, Vice President of the Homeless Response System, CFTH — Leads system-wide coordination and strategy for the PIT Count and broader response efforts
  • Ben King, Clinical Assistant Professor, Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine, University of Houston — Leads independent analysis and report preparation for the PIT Count
  • John Slimp, Senior Data Systems Engineer, CFTH — Manages data collection, quality assurance and reporting for the PIT Count
